A Spanish hotel room where rapper Daddy Yankee was staying was robbed of more than $2 million in jewelry - including diamond and gold pieces - belonging to the Gasolina artist.
According to the Las Provincias, a Spanish outlet, the robber claimed he was Daddy Yankee to have staff grant him access to the Despacito performer's room at the Melía Valencia hotel - and open the safe inside.
'Daddy Yankee’s press office confirms that the artist has been victim of a robbery while he was out of his hotel in Valencia, Spain,' his reps said via Twitter. 'A law firm has been hired and there will not be any more statements in order to not hinder the investigation.'
The 41-year-old musical artist was not present at the time of the robbery - in which $2,500 cash was also taken in the hotel room - according to the outlet.
Authorities will utilize security footage and the guest list at the establishment - as well as seek fingerprints for forensics experts - in their probe in the robbery of the San Juan, Puerto Rico native, whose full name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez.
Daddy Yankee and his team asked the hotel to contact authorities upon their return to the room, leading multiple branches of law enforcement to respond and interview both hotel employees as well as Daddy Yankee and two people with him.
The thieves wore gloves and didn't leave behind much physical evidence for investigators to follow up on, the publication reported.
